Power of the mind

Even though this is a Physical Therapy blog I figured I would incorporate a different point of view.

Everyone knows how the mind affects the body. Emotions cloud our judgment and we find ourselves in a lost what to do.As we awake from our lifeless slumbers in the morning, we take a deep breath and unwillingly roll out of bed to start a day knowing that it will  exactly be like the day before. As the regular boring morning routine starts to unfold, thoughts are going through our minds  contemplating whether or not this is the life we all want. Thinking that the day will be miserable, we walk out to our cars, sit in them, then before starting the engine taking one more deep breath of encouragement and we turn the key.

For most people this is how the day starts. Their mentality is at an all time low, body starts to ache, and out of no where they get symptoms of a cold or a flu. Why is that? The day before they felt fine, the person got plenty of rest and their body felt fine. Even though all that might be true the power of the mind can drastically change everything. As for a patient of physical therapy, their body aches are real. Some so severe that doctors prescribe pain killers to keep them sane. So, why cant a person use the mind to ease the pain a bit? If the mind can increase pain and develop a cold or a flu without prior symptoms, cant the opposite happen also?

Whenever I am assisting a patient, I am always aware of the pain that they can be in or even what they aren’t able to do.Some patients are so nervous to do certain things that they say they cant without even trying. So, naturally I become a pain in the butt, talk to them and encourage the fact that they can do it. The mind relaxes and becomes subtle, the nerves are calming down, the patient takes a breath and performs the routine. But, I thought the patient couldn’t do that? The body, even though its injured is capable of doing things to repair itself. The mind however tells us we cant because of the fear it has of the day the accident happened to cause the body to be in this torment.

Can thinking Irish make u Irish? Of course not. Can thinking getting taller make you taller? Defintly not. But, thinking that you are fully capable of doin something can allow a person do things that they can only imagine. What the person thinks, the mind will manifest to extreme measues making the person capable of doing anything.

I would like to thank everyone in advance for taking their time out to read my very first blog ever! If you have any questions or comments about this insert please feel free to leave any feedback.

Greetings and thank you for visiting my blog. My name is Chris Cerchio and I am a 20 year old college student who is the head aide at Suburban Therapy Center. As the head aide my duties are hiring and unfortunately firing aides, training, scheduling, ordering supplies and carrying out aide responsibilities. The job that I do might sound boring but I can assure that it isn’t. While working, some think of me as the entertainment of Suburban. I am loud, upbeat, and make all the patients enjoy their time here but, I’m sill very responsible and make sure everything is done correctly. I believe that in a person’s day no matter how chaotic their day is, he/she should take the time and make someone smile and enjoy themselves. If a person is not satisfied with their lives then a person will lose hope and give up. Part of patient care is assuring the patient that they will get better and keep them in a mood that is satisfying for them to make everyday count. That is a belief that I think everyone should believe in. Because what’s the point of helping people if they remain miserable?<-->
